Once removed, I fastened the brackets to my workbench with screws to prepare to thread them. I got lucky and it turns out the post was 3/8 which matched the diameter of the threaded posts. Now I just had to use a Die to thread the blunt end of the metal sign bracket posts. That way I could reassemble and thread them into the posts.
